Well, for starters it is always advisable to have the actual e-ticket available as that's the only way to check and ensure the ticket has been issued properly.
The other airline PNR reference is not included in the redemption email from Avianca, only AVs PNR reference is. However, if the other carrier one redeemed on also uses Altea reservation system like AV (as do SQ, LH, LX, OS, TG etc.) then AVs PNR reference is the same and it'll ll work. If one booked UA or TK or so it won't, as they use their own reservation system.
