Flew this today. Was the best flight experience I've had on a regular AA flight (the time during covid where I missed a flight and got put on a 777 with 2 other pax ferrying a plane back MAD-USA and the crew were super happy after 5 days stuck in Spain waiting for spare parts might have been even better).

JAL cooperated with AA on developing and catering the Japanese meals; I slept from noon NYC until 8am Japan time (first 6-8h of the flight) and the crew when I woke up initially offered any of the available meals, but then realized someone had saved the Japanese meal I requested pre-departure for me, too. Only thing I missed out on was the ice cream sundae.

The Purser on the flight had flown with AA for 54 (!!!!) years and will be retiring soon, the entire crew were basically JAL quality. So, bigger AA seat, cheap pricing for coach plus SWUs, and same quality crew/meal/etc. This route is wonderful -- even getting remote-gated was fine because it took me 11 minutes from the door of the aircraft to being in the baggage hall (thanks to APEC BTC).
