I can't ever remember having an "unimpressive" let alone "deeply unimpressive" QR longhaul F experience, over dozens of segments over the past 15 years or so.

Regarding the food, remember that even if the J food is similar, remember that J food in QR is usually rather good. The exception is that late night red eyes on QR IME has historically only offered limited food options with their "late night dining" menu, although my most recent trips suggest it's improved somewhat. I'd still avoid a late night departure on that basis if airline food piques your interest. I'm not sure what the cutoff is for "late night dining", but I anecdotally it's around a midnight departure.
