Keep in mind that now Qatar, Finnair and Iberia all use Avios points too for their schemes and you can move points to their scheme easily. You will lose any BA status benefits but they can all provide cheaper deals (usually on their own flights). I'm flying on a trip from Dublin to Bangkok via Qatar on points in October.
