It also depends on how many Avios you have and the cost to you of acquiring them or at least how you view that cost.

I tend to use mine in a conjunction with a companion voucher for long haul in J which would be once a year.

But I also use my avios for short haul ( mainland Europe) in Y or J on reward seats maybe 5 or 6 trips a year which only cost me in cash terms £1 pp.

I never use them to reduce a cash fare but that doesn’t mean to say that’s not the best use for you.
