The upside of a strike for some may be a boatload of bonuses, special deals, status miles etc. once all is settled. That is how I got to be SE first in 1998. There were 3X bonus qualifying miles (no SQD then) for every flight I took in the fall (2 week period) after a pilot's strike. After that I was hooked by the Aeroplan program and have been SE in every year since! I don't need SQMs but will be working on SQD through year end--I doubt there will be anything special there, but one never knows! The downside is the potential for more continuing high tier members and competition for benefits.
