For DL connections within US, I believe you can request short check for connections between 6 and 12 hours with the default being to check through, while connections over 12 hours are short checked (there's some language in older DL CoCs to this effect). AMS and CDG connections will apparently will check through up to 24 hours. But since connection is slightly less than 12 hours anyway, I don't think there will be any issues with checking through.
