Sooner or later, your beliefs are likely to run up against the reality that you will not be able to enforce any rights you may believe you have at the airport - especially when you're outside the EU. You might win a court case later (whatever that'd be worth to you), but if you can't satisfy the airline's agents on the day - who are often ill-informed and yes, make up rules as they go along - you will not be flying.

Get your EU passport renewed.
