I returned to Rimini the way I came - although I nearly missed the bus entirely, as today’s service was an unbranded white coach. It was only by overhearing the ticket vendor point another passenger to it that I realised, with a minute to spare.

My final rail pass day was spent on this single train - but it was a Frecciarossa, the flagship of the Trenitalia fleet.
A first class booking won’t get you into the 8 seat executive cabin I’ve sampled once before, but 5 hours in business is still a fantastic experience: plush electric reclining seats, a complimentary snack box and water, folding tables, big windows, power at every seat and a high speed wifi service with aircraft-style films, podcasts and even on-demand sports streaming.
There is also a cafe car; they didn’t have their full hot menu today, but there were some heatable items and I got what seems to have been the last pizza for a mere €4.
Reserving via OBB I couldn’t pick my seat, and for the first time I was assigned a group of 4 rather than a solo or facing pair. I had a seatmate on boarding, so had to share until he departed a couple of stops later (at which point I could grab my usual photos).
We left a little late, and collected further delays - at one point, fully half an hour adrift from the schedule. This improved a little, reaching Bari with 20 minutes of delay. No great problem when the views are so good - this run down the Italian coast is practically in the Adriatic at times, and much of the route looks out on beaches - quite the contrast from the mountains I was admiring just a few days ago!
