LHR is terrible with checked bags, but at least OP isn't flying BA.
We will simply not check bags through LHR after BA lost ours for five days on a no-problem 3 hour connection. In fact, we'll only connect through LHR if there's no other reasonable option. It is just a horrible connection experience. At least flying *A, it's T2-T2 so you don't need to deal with the T3-T5 nonsense that's so common with a OW connection.
