I didn't even think that the next flight is a domestic/internal flight. 1. Does this mean I need to have a visa for China? None of us will as we are only flying on to Vientiane afterwards and until today there was not this internal flight involved. Or do we not go through immigration? The flight number is the same and it is listed as a stopover (incl by CS Air) rather than a separate flight and connection. Maybe it stays in the intl sector and nobody domestically can embark, and the next flight arrives in the intl sector? Surely they can't rebook me into a situation that would require a visa? The flight is listed as one single flight to Guanzhou that lasts for like 18 hours, so the stopover and extra leg of the flight are listed in my ticket as one big flight:

CZ8022 Departing: Frankfurt (FRA) at 12:25Arriving: Guangzhou (CAN) at 12:20
I only found out it is a stopover somewhere by searching for the flight on Google flights

We are all from countries that allow transit for free without a visa, but I don't see 2. Shenyang listed as a place that allows this? Or do they all allow it if under 24hrs? Would I need to collect my bags too for customs?

Correct...but I guess I don't get the issue with gotogate saying they would not be responsible. At that point I would have checked in and it would be the day of travel. 3.Surely at that point the airline was always going to be the responsible one? If my flight is delayed on my return journey and I miss the connection, I'd be speaking to CS locally anyway, not gotogate surely? Or what am I missing?

I only found this out by chance as nobody emailed me about these changes and I can't even login to my booking on CS, and with gotogate it shows the old details!
1. No, as long as you are out within 24 hours.
2. Shenyang does offer 144-hour TWOV, but only if you leave the country from there or another eligible checkpoint in Liaoning. In your case, you'd be on a 24-hour timeline, commencing when you are stamped in (about 630a, right?).
3. That's the way it usually works, but calling CZ to confirm wouldn't be a bad idea.
