Today was a low point. I covered less ground than any other day, and was the most stressed doing so.


It could have been worse; another racer attempting the same Graz - Venice itinerary earlier in the day had been turfed out onto a rail replacement bus at Villach, just 20 minutes down the line - and by his account, it was a fight to get on the single coach provided. Others had also had problems at Villach, so I was worried I'd have a similar fate - and my bus ride to Klagenfurt did not enamour me to the idea of another three hours by road.


Still, the hefty delay at Pordenone - longer than several of my journeys! - came at a bad time. At least I wasn't aiming for onward travel from Mestre, as I'd surely have missed any connection this evening. But I had considered a sunset visit to Venice proper, which I obviously missed out on.
