Interesting update on this situation of two $500 electronic gift cards seemingly having been drained. Delta tells me that one $500 electronic gift cards was redeemed on July 15 of this year for flights that will take place on November 13 of this year and January 21 2025. Delta won't give me give me any details about the flights this was booked for, or who the passengers are. I asked them to cancel the tickets and give me back my money, but they say they won't, and they are also declining to investigate. So there are flights out there booked by some scammers that could easily be traced and canceled, and Delta is refusing to investigate. Am I missing something here? Wouldn't the right thing to do be for Delta to investigate? The flights have not even been taken yet.

I'm still trying to figure out the status of my other $500 gift card.

Delta says they won't replace "stolen" gift cards. But my gift cards have not been stolen. My gift card numbers are stored in a secure spot on my computer and there is no evidence that anyone "stole" them. I have other gift cards stored there and they have not been fraudulently redeemed - only apparently thes etwo. As far as I know, someone on the inside could have used my card numbers and pins. I simply do not know, but there seem to be other stories on the Internet of Delta gift cards being drained, so it seems like there could be a problem. To start with, I need to find out the status of my second gift card, then I'm definitely filing a police report - I doubt that the police would seriously investigate a $1,000 issue, but maybe this will put pressure on Delta to help unravel this.

Does anyone have any other ideas? I guess I could also write to executive customer service, but beyond filing a police report and writing to executive customer service, I'm not sure of what to do. Perhaps another avenue is small claims court somehow - I don't really know. A third option could be a credit card chargeback, but these cards were purchased in 2021 so it's too far back for a chargeback - It was a big mistake on my part to let them sit unusued for so long.

I did have a situation earlier this year where a Marriott electronic gift card of mine was also fraudulently redeemed - apparently through an inside job at a hotel. Marriott investigated and returned the value of the gift card to me in points. This card also sat unusued for many years, until it was redeemed by some scammer.

I think one moral of this story is I am no longer buying gift cards, whether electronic or physical. There seem to be serious security issues with these cards. I really welcome any ideas from folks on how to resolve this so I don't lose $1,000.
