Cash rates were quite high and I was able to get a room for 23k points. The hotel was sold out by the time we arrived and I think I was given a base room in the low-rise section overlooking the pool. I took an Uber from downtown Reno for about $70.
I received a coupon for a free item from the market as a welcome gift, along with a s’mores kit coupon.
I requested a rollaway and that was delivered with a $25 fee. Out of the dozens of Hyatts I’ve stayed at and needed a rollaway, I have never once been charged (even if there was a posted fee) until this Hyatt. That’s perfectly fair and just sharing as an observation.
Overall I think I preferred Everline although I do think the Hyatt is a nicer property. I don’t view Tahoe as a beach destination and love the hiking accessible directly from Everline.
Benefits of HR Tahoe vs Everline- Generally nicer/newer rooms
- Direct lake access with a beach
- Free s’mores kit
- Excellent winter pool access
- Able to walk to other dining venues easily (although simple, my family had a surprisingly good dinner at T’s Rotisserie).
Benefits of Everline vs HR Tahoe- Beautiful view of Olympic Valley (I had no particular view from the low-rise building at the HR)
- Easy access to hiking, including to High Camp which is one of my favorite hikes
- Larger pool with a (slow) water slide
- More of a residential feel as rooms have a kitchenette and there is laundry available
- Personally I prefer being near Tahoe City vs Incline Village
In conclusion I would return but personally I prefer Everline.
I'm staying here now in one of the 1 bed suites and have stayed at the Everline twice. Both hotels to me are about equal as far as enjoyment goes and both are in need of a slight refresh as far as the rooms go.
A standard room at this HR the last week of the summer (Sun to Thurs) is going for $850 a night. At that price you might as well stay at the Ritz-Carlton or Edgewood at Tahoe as this property is not as nice as those two and pricing between the 3 are all somewhat similar. The Edgewood is the most expensive at $970 per night for a standard room, the Ritz is at $900 over the same timeframe. Interesting enough the Everline is going for $300 per night so it is by far the best deal of the four if your not using points.
In any event, with both hotel experiences being about equal, and assuming price/points cost being similar, I'd recommend staying at the Everline during ski season and the HR Lake Tahoe during the summer time. The Everline is ski on ski off which is perfect for skiers in the winter and the HR is right next to Lake Tahoe for a summer trip. There are also tons of great hiking trails within short driving distance of this property.
