It's not that dumb if you'll be sitting on a plane for numerous of hours going from the west coast to the east.
Some people are forgetting that when you get older, your body don't hold up as much, which is why I know people leave luggage to hold a spot for them in line while they have a seat nearby. I really can't blame them.
