Had a pretty good stay last week here. A few strikes and gutters for us...

Pros
  • Great location on the waterfront in Wailea. Beautiful views. While expansive, property didn't feel overwhelming like the Grand Wailea
  • Kids LOVED it... the loungy area with the koi pond, the waterslide pool, the other family pool, and (sigh) the free arcade were daily features. Kinda felt like a permanently docked cruise ship
  • The folks running rentals at whales tale and the beach were awesome. Although there are only i think 15 sets of beach chairs so at peak times can be a bit hunger games-ish, but on a tuesday it was just fine
  • Wife said best massage in years
  • Food was good, although many items overpriced, even for Wailea
  • Rooms were spacious and even our "Garden view" rooms had a nice view, although there are definitely some rooms especially in the tower that look away from the water completely

Cons
  • they charged us $75 per room per night for connecting rooms. I get that they can get away with this (we paid it) but feels pretty sleazy to be travelling with two kids who can't sleep in a non-connecting room and be told "well you can pay us $150 per night or roll the dice"
  • Between that connecting room fee, taxes, the $55 a night resort fee per room, and the $42 per night self-parking fee, before any actual purchases our five nights on points ran us $900 per room (Note that at the Andaz next door if you are lucky enough to get a points room, as a globalist the resort fee, parking, and pricey breakfast buffet would have all been free)
  • As noted multiple times on this thread, the breakfast is stingy. That being said, the starbucks folks were relatively flexible which i appreciated (e.g., with two rooms we got four coffees but with two kids not drinking coffee they gladly gave us two large coffees)
  • Despite multiple dining outlets the food all seemed to be not quite the same but there was a definite lack of variety (and as mentioned while good, was expensive)
  • Rooms were tired. One of our rooms had a definite musty smell to it too

Overall a good option as grand wailea too big and andaz hard to get points rooms and not set up for kiddos...but definitely some gaps to be aware of
