I have not kept Gold status consistently. Had it a few years ago and then again for the last almost 3 years (about to expire). I used to hate it and find it awkward but then started to appreciate it. Especially years ago when they offered me a meal first in economy and brought a glass of champagne. Nice little touches.

In the last 3 years and easily/at least 150 flights I have had it only twice and both times while flying economy. When I was gold before it was so regular I thought it was a set thing at least for long haul.

I’ve recently moved from exec club to Alaska mileageplan for the better miles crediting/value and will be OWE with them around the time my BA gold expires and I didn’t even bother to check if the gold member greeting happened for other OWE as I it’s so infrequent now I thought it was essentially gone.
