Yesterday was a real mess at IAD. There was an extended ramp shut down owing to thunderstorms for UA. At one point, close to 50 aircraft were holding on practically every major hold bay and taxiway - waiting for gate space. You could tell the ground controllers and tower controllers were on the brink of exasperation.
