I had John Hancock travel insurance for a trip that had to be cancelled at the last minute for medical reasons, and I absolutely do not recommend them.

They jerked me around for 2+ months, demanding documents that I had already sent them, not actually reading the documents they admitted to having, etc. I ended up filing a complaint with the state department of insurance, and was able to prove that their agent had repeatedly lied in his emails to me - and using his emails, I was also able to document their corporate lawyer had lied in her filings, probably because the claims agent had lied to her. Took a huge amount of time to get the claim paid but they got smacked down by the state department of insurance pretty good in the end.
