i don’t know what CPM for purchased miles is, but a quick google suggests $0.036. That puts it close to my original calc.

That particular flight seems to have really weird pricing. If you asked me to prove they were trying to make a profit on it, I couldn’t.

For the most part, if you have to ask if you should stretch for a UA status level, the answer is probably ‘no.’ If someone’s in your position, paying a relatively small amount out of pocket in order to secure a near-perfect overwater upgrade rate, they’re not posting here to ask if they should stretch.
