"special immigration control points" are the police lecterns either side of the entry corridor
I don't think I've ever seen them manned at STN ... or LGW since they built the lovely new CTA gates ... and it's decades since I've seen any coppers operate them at LHR !
I've probably taken about 300 flights into London airports from Irish airports in the last 30 years - and have only ever been stopped once.
