I have never had the pleasure of flying EgyptAir but have so far avoided the opportunity of those cheap fares that pop up in Google flights.

Whilst EgyptAir is very much linked to Cairo Airport and is their main hub, you can imagine the airline doesn't have significant influence over the airport. The general sub-optimal posture of Cairo airport is well documented, things that would be simple to achieve as a transit passenger in most other airports are the most complex and soul destroying processes in Cairo and often require little pieces of paper to be offered to oil the process.

​​​​​​Also, baggage handling is normally a function of the airport rather than the airline, and although the airline is contractually on the hook to you to reunite you with your bags, it's something the airlines don't usually have too much choice over, and it either works or it doesn't. You are fortunate that you did eventually get your bags back and they can often disappear into a baggage "black hole" in this part of the world.
