They are giftable. Last time a friend who used mine was asked for my MP# to verify. I think lounge agents can see the MP# attached when entering a pass code. Some never ask, some do.
I asked this question at the SFO lounge yesterday and the agent said not to give the person your MP# and just the lounge pass number where they can verify the identity of the true bearer in the system . I have given my wife passes over the past year and they just confirm my relationship and name attached to the lounge pass.
