Yeah I agree with the FS. For FHR in Sydney, we tend to stay there or at the Sofitel. They both have the same problem: rooms are TINY. The Sofitel is more modern but the service isn't awesome. I've heard great things about the Park Hyatt but the Hyatt brand keeps me away. Have had two many bad corporate travel stays at Hyatts.

Four Seasons:
  • Breakfast is really good. The only negative I have here was the last time they had expired sliced turkey on the charcuterie table. I got a slice but I didn't eat it once I could smell the lactobacillus making it sour. They fixed it immediately.
  • Rooms are tiny and a little dated.
  • Great location for the city or if you're arriving from/departing to a cruise.
  • Bed is super comfortable
  • Service is outstanding. Anything you need, they can get it for you and I think they're the only FHR hotel still doing turn down service.

Sofitel:
  • The breakfast at the Sofitel was pretty good but not amazing -- their breads and pastries were very good.
  • The rooms are tiny but modern. If you need to be in Darling Harbour, it's a pretty good spot.
  • Loved their shower but if you need a tub, they do not have one.
  • Bed was nice and we loved the pillow concierge.

Langham:
  • The Langham was just OK.
  • I HATE that the bathroom at the Langham is huge but for some reason they only have a tub+shower combo. No walk-in shower. I will not stay at the Langham again for that reason alone (I know, very petty but you expect nice things at these price points).
  • Their breakfast during the week is awful (limited menu, extremely poor service) but on the weekends the buffet is decent. We did not eat at the restaurant in the evening because the breakfast service was so bad.
  • The bed was hilariously bad: it was an old box spring on a failing frame that caused the whole bed to shake/squeak when someone got on or off the bed.
  • If you're visiting during a shoulder season (spring/fall): expect to not be able to turn on the AC or the heat if you want something different than the hotel's settings. Seems they have one system for the hotel and if it's warm and you want it cold, they cannot accommodate. We're hot sleepers so this was very uncomfortable for us.
  • Their lobby bar (gin bar) got top marks on the last trip.

Shangri-la:
Stayed at the Shangri-la before covid and it was a complete disaster: the room was literally falling apart and the service was ABYSMAL.
  • Most of the stuff in the bathroom was broken. Water leaked from the handles and the shower head. The seal keeping the water in the shower detached from the shower when opening the shower on day 2.
  • If you closed the curtains, you could see the sun through holes in the drapery.
  • The carpets were stained (in the rooms and in the hallways)
  • We had two lift emergencies where we got stuck in the lifts for several minutes. One dropped us about half a meter unexpectedly before stopping and then proceeding to the next floor where we were instructed to get out.
  • At breakfast, I asked for an espresso and the waitress pointed to a corner of the restaurant and said "there's a coffee machine over there, love"
  • The next day at breakfast, the french toast was delivered with the grill ticket wedged between the toast and the plate. The ticket was covered in syrup and icing sugar.
  • The lounge at the top of the hotel was daggy. I have no problem with cheap and cheerful pubs having sticky floors. No excuse for a place charging $40AUD a cocktail to have sticky seats, tables and floors.

Thats about it for FHR hotels in Sydney.

The W and Capella weren't open/in FHR the last time we visited (last year) and this next trip is going to be in AirBnBs (horror). I haven't seen decent rates on the Intercontinental in FHR. I've stayed there once (8 years ago!) outside of FHR and I liked it but not enough to justify the rates I've seen when we're in Sydney (think $900AUD/nt) I am in Vegas for work on a regular basis so I have no desire to visit the Crown.
