Especially since it's o-bon week and everything was already booked solid. We have friends visiting from the US who were supposed to fly back to HND from OKA yesterday; they were told they couldn't be re-accommodated for a week.
Likewise, my friends had their flight cancelled on Wednesday or Thursday and no rebooking until a few days from now. It seemed excessive to cancel the flights that early, especially as you say, with the amount of people travelling this time of year.
