For my commutes to and from Hawaii for work, I avoid redeyes as much as possible. That's not an option when returning home to London from Hawaii, of course, but it certainly used to be possible to fly a daytime itinerary from Hawaii to New York. Not sure if it's still an option or not. It was much better for me to leave Hawaii early in the morning and arrive in New York late the same evening, followed by a proper rest, than to fly overnight 👍

Conversely, I sometimes find it convenient to take a redeye from New York to Hawaii. The morning nonstops are best, but if you have to travel late in the day, a redeye can be a useful option. It used to be JFK-LAS-HNL on B6 and HA, in flat beds the entire way, then straight to the beach for some surfing to wake up on arrival! Not sure if that option still exists, but it would be nice to earn on HA if the merger goes through and they end up in OneWorld.
