I realize this is borderline unethical, but in my defense the TAP site is misleading about the so-called "free" stopover.
I want to fly SFO-LIS-VLC. There is fare that gives me almost 24 hours layover in LIS, but really I want 48+ hours. This fare is E930.
The SFO-LIS fare is E1200.
The "free stopover" option makes me take a partner airline via some other US city, and is E1700!
I was considering booking the SFO-LIS-VLC fare (hand luggage only) and then either:
1. Simply don't go back to the airport for the LIS-VLS the next day, but instead book another ticket just LIS-VLC for the following day. This is a skip-lag strategy. I've never done that before. I'm only considering it due the deceptively advertised (not) free stopover.
2. Claim to have missed the connecting flight and see if they will put us on another one (granted it's a bit of a stretch to show up 2 days later

)
Any thoughts?
