You would jump over only those in your own status level. And because they are ahead of you, they already might have the fare class you might buy up to and still be ahead on tie-breakers. Unless you know the status and fare classes of the people you want to get ahead of, it could be a complete waste of money. And of course, people can take buy-ups and last-minute purchasers can take some of the remaining seats.
