If you count college dorms as a residence, the dorms at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Unviersity could be considered walkable to the terminal at DAB (and it wouldn't shock me if many cash-strapped college students do walk to/from the terminal there to save a buck if they can't get a ride from a friend).

As an ERAU student in the 80's I have done exactly that- both walked and biked from my dorm room to/from the terminal. It was never in the context of flying in/out of DAB (I had a friend or two with a car!), but just as a long leisurely activity to take a break from studying. The entire walk from the dorm to terminal along Catalina Blvd around the perimeter fence was nothing but open fields on both sides. Not so much the case now, I believe.
Pretty cool going to school next to the airport. The main academic complex was adjacent to the departure end of runway 24. Whenever flights were departing to the west, profs would have to pause for a minute because no one could hear over the sound of jets at full power starting their takeoff roll.
