I found that a lot of the local boutique luxury hotels in China are hard to find or even know about since they aren't bookable through the usual avenues of expedia/booking. I found more hotels on trip.com since it is a Chinese booking website. I used xiaohongsu to find these hotels that are popular amongst the locals but definitely unknown to westerners. Not the easiest to navigate that site since i don't read Chinese and had to translate everything lol. A couple hotels I found that looked interesting are Jianglu Yalugu Hotel and the Xiapu Sijian CangHai Homestay. Keep in mind that a lot of reviews on Chinese-based sites and apps are paid for according to my wife that grew up there so it is hard to know what is legit and what is an ad.
