We enjoyed both Portland Kimptons, but neither was special and neither recognised IHG Diamond status beyond granting breakfast as per programme T&Cs.

We spent three nights at the RiverPlace in the "Willamette River View Suite" that we'd booked.

The room was comfortable but very old-fashioned -- everything from the light switches to the bathtub screamed 1980s. There was no coffee maker in the room, despite this being one of the items on the list allegedly justifying the $30.16 per night "amenity fee". We requested a coffee maker (something one should be able to do at a Kimpton anyway) and initially received an old filter machine that hadn't been cleaned or emptied since the last time it was used, which judging by the dried coffee grounds in the filter was years or at least many months previously. A second machine was clean and worked.

The riverside location worked well for us over the weekend. The restaurant breakfast was a good way to start the day.

On our final morning I made a late check out request that was refused without the front desk agent even bothering to look up our room or IHG status. Apparently there were too many group bookings with pre-approved late check out.

We then spent four nights at the Vintage in the "Reserve Suite Spa" that we'd booked. The room was comfortable and nicely furnished, but the lighting was inadequate and several lamps and/or bulbs didn't work. One our first afternoon we mentioned the most important defective lamp and that the TV didn't work. The TV was fixed, the lamp wasn't.

The "spa" aspect of the room turned out to be a deep soaking tubfor two that wasn't in the least bit appealing. The shower cubicle was really small (it felt closer to 30 x 30 inches than 36 x 36) and the door didn't close properly.

The restaurant staff were enthusiastic and friendly. The restaurant is currently only open for breakfast, however.

The downtown location, close to tram and bus routes, was just what we needed during the week (my partner was attending a conference).
