They were not comp because AA holds back up to 8 J until T-26 on this route and 4 J up to about T-12 then 1 J at the gate. Except when there is weather on the forecast, then they hold back it all until the gate. The other exception are CKs but those are very small numbers (0-2) on this route. You can use expert flyer to confirm this pattern.
Two years ago they would only hold back 4 J during the window, which to me seemed fair. Holding back half the cabin during the window while decreasing the App offer until just before check-in is just not cool.
