Update on my situtation with this property:
  • I pushed back on the weak offer to be shifted to the Canopy, and the hotel responded that they'd accommodate me at the Hilton Labriz and to sweeten the pot, they would comp my transfers to/from the airport and upgrade my rate package to half board. I accepted [I wasn't going to push them to put me up at the Waldorf, which was going for 1600+ EUR a night for my dates], and shared my arrival flight details via email.
  • As I was staying at the Canopy for the last night of my stay, I wrote back asking if the transfers would only be between the Hilton Labriz and the airport, and shared my departure flight information. I received an email response that I would be dropped off at SEZ from the Canopy, which seemed delightful.
  • Upon arrival at SEZ, I was told to look out for someone holding a Mango House placard... but no one was to be found anywhere in the small terminal. A friendly Seychellois fellow offered his assistance, and called the Mango House for me to figure out what was going on. After some stunted conversation on the hotel's side and a very awkward 45-second silence, they said "someone is on the way now." I then received a call from the reservations manager saying that there was a misunderstanding from my emails where they assumed I had my own transfer FROM the airport figured out, and instead they told me to pay for a cab to the Hilton's jetty, and they would transfer me from the jetty to the Canopy when I return to Mahé.
Sigh. I was talking to a friend about what happened, and having stayed at the Mango House herself, she was relaying how the property is physically beautiful but service across the board ranged from sloppy to downright "so so bad." The way things have turned out, it seems I dodged a bullet by not staying at the Mango House, yet they still seem to be messy in their communications and actions. As demue mentioned above, this seems to be a blessing in disguise as the property spirals.
