If you're booking with the AA desk, just book every flight individually.
I.e., don't tell them that you want, say, BOS-DOH-BKK. Instead, tell them that you want BOS-DOH. Then, after s/he books this, then say that your next flight is DOH-BKK. This is the way that I book all of my DONE3s, one flight at a time, and I've never had a problem.
Edited to correct an error on the first lfight. Should have been BOS-DOH.
