If the first leg is UA and you check thru your bag at the beginning, you will receive the Business bag allowance. Note checking bag across separate tickets takes extra time. Especially if UA to UA and the second UA flight is sold out. It still can be done allow 15 minutes or more. Note if the first segment is not UA, then you need to ask the first carrier their policy, it varies.
