I missed this. I guess I'll have to drink TWO beers tonight for a late celebration.

That earn rate was better than the earn rate I'd get from flying. One hotel was non-branded so I didn't lose anything as far as points went and one was at the Seattle Hilton but I don't find my Hilton Gold benefits to be that meaningful so I don't feel I really lost out especially when I earned far more in AA miles and LPs than I would have in Hilton Honors points for the same stay.
Being CLT based I started looking into the AA program a lot more after the Delta Amex changes were announced last year. I got as far as figuring out that I could likely keep PM with DL into next year while I worked up to the third level with AA if I added one of the AA cards. I decided instead to just spend what I needed on Amex to keep PM and then switch all my spend to the Sapphire card that will give me more options to use the points. Travel has been much slower this year than I anticipated so I'm still short of keeping PM. I still may re-visit the idea of ditching the Amex for the equivalent AA card. I'll have to look how I could take advantage of the AA hacks.
