Two notes about Munich from my kids when they were about your kids ages.
1. The Hofbrauhaus has the best apple juice my kids have ever had. So if you stop by that historic venue for an adult beverage, the kids can kind of join in. And the band is fun. The food? Awful.
2. The butter encrusted pretzels in the train station are worth the trip over there. Not sure which one of the myriad of pretzel stands it was. But they loved it.
Thank you for the advice! Hofbrauhaus will be a major attraction for us so I'm sure we'll be consuming plenty of beverages there

Random thoughts regarding visiting a soccer game:
- The women's European Championship will be held next July in Switzerland...Basel, Zurich and St. Gallen would be kind of along your planned route or, especially St. Gallen, easily reachable from Lake Constance
- A bunch of German Bundesliga (highest soccer league) teams are regularly holding their training camp around late July/early August in various places in Austria and are often playing exhibition games while there. Don't think this is something that can be planned much in advance, but may be worth keeping in the back of your head and check in June or so if there is something that may fit with your schedule
Thank you for the tips! We had the opportunity to take in a EPL match in London last summer and it was one of the most memorable sports events I've attended. I'd love to do the same in Germany. From what I've noticed the 2/3 Bundesliga start in August so there is a chance we could might be able to catch a game. But an exhibition game in the Bundesliga itself would be great too (I'd imagine it must be a little easier to get tickets for those?). I will keep my eye out for training camp/exhibition game schedules.
