I do not care about status recognition in a sense to be greated with "dear valued status customer". Not on airlines, not in hotels. To be honest, I prefer to just get the benefit without much fuss. Like "Welcome to RB <CITY>, thanks for staying with us and we prepared a nice room for you". And when I then walk up, get a bit better room than I booked.
But with RB these days, I often have to fight to get the room I did book, e.g. I always book queen or king rooms as a solo-traveler I like a big bed and not two separate beds. But almost every time, they put me into a twin room. And when I then go down and ask "I did book a king, please provide a room with one bed only" I get a "let's see if we have one". And often enough they don't. As a status member, I expect that at the very least, I get the room type I book and not a bogus upgrade to a room with a better view but twin beds.
I am very close to give up on RB.
Actually status recognition works well for me at Hilton and Marriott as long as we won't talk about the full service properties in Europe and Africa. In the US and Asia, they are overrun by Toptier Elites and as lowly Gold status member, of course I do not expect any recoghnition or benefits besides the basics.
