I have found in other scenarios where maybe an ‘error’ has been made, the person involved tucks it away into the bottom of their inbox and if no one pushes it goes into the ‘too difficult to deal with’ box and then after a while vanishes.

But, with the way things go - the replacement flight will get cancelled now or something else will happen.
