SQD fraud
In my strong opinion having watched AC take advantage of, belittle (upgrades cheapen the J experience), and obfuscate rules over the past 4 decades, the SQD posting omissions amount to systemic attempt by AC to withhold credits which are marketed as a significant benefit.
Every 5000 SQD get issued a worldwide pass for 50 percent off Aeroplan Miles. In a lot of cases for a round trip this can be 80,000, 150,000 even over 200,000 Aeroplan miles in savings.
Let’s say a world wide priority pass saves an average of 100,000 miles, well that’s around d $1500-2000 in cash value. In my case the missing SQD over the year make up at least one priority pass credit.
then there are those who might be close to the spend threshold and due to missing SQD purchase a higher fare, do a mileage run etc, essentially spending money they didn’t need to.
Multiply this by the millions of flights on which SQF is improperly withheld, and it amounts to some sort of systemic issue which is obviously well known to AC management and either tolerated or encouraged.
Loyalty programs are big money earners for airlines. They must play it fairly and all promoted items must be properly posted.
this issue could be somewhat mitigated if SQD excess could carry forward to the next year. But they don’t.
