I was just running the numbers from NYC to KOA/OGG with some overnights in PDX (home for me) and SEA. I thinks it's better than just doing the west coast run to the islands.
Yes NYC is better, but since you can only go Monday-Thurs, unless you have free lodging in NYC, the repositioning time and cost doesn't seem worth it.
