Given my tight schedule though I am glad that I have piece of mind and a solution that isn't going to impact the rest of the trip.
If departing from an alternative US city is acceptable to you, then call again and ask the CSO to escalate to someone in Krisflyer / Rev Management to release new seats while honouring the original rate. If you ask the frontline CSOs, you'd get only their standard answer. It's their own cancellation, thus their responsibility to make you whole in the least disruptive manner possible to your travel itinerary.
