Reviving an old thread because there's so little info about the Hyatt Family Plan.

It'd be great to get a database of properties it's available at, and their 2nd room rates.

Even as a globalist who frequently travels with his family and needs to book a 2nd room, I had no idea it existed.

I came across it on a social media post presented as one of those really cheesy "travel hack you don't know about" posts, and was quite skeptical. But I did a bit more digging and it seemed to be real, so I called up the globalist line to see if I could actually book it for an upcoming weekend stay in Seattle.

Here's the general info I got from the rep:
  • The globalist rep I talked with was familiar with the family plan, but said even they don't have access to a list of properties that accept the family plan. They just have to check by putting in the rate code property-by-property.
  • The 1st room can either be booked with cash or points.
  • The rate varies by property, and is typically a %off a "standard" rate, though (as we could see from our booking below) that standard rate is variable.
I asked her to check rates and availability at 2 downtown Seattle properties, both had it available:
  • At the Grand Hyatt Seattle, it was available, and the 2nd room was $186/night when the equivalent Member's cash rate was $351, so a bit over 50%.
  • At the Olive 8 Seattle, it was also available, and the 2nd room was $184 for our first night, and $237 for our second, when the cash price member rate (with the same 1-day prior cancellation) would have been $361 on night 1, and $465 on night 2. So a proper 50% discount.
We ended up booking the Olive 8 because when we tried to process the booking on the Grand Hyatt, it turned out there weren't 2x qualifying rooms available.

The booking confirmation had this somewhat relevant info on it:

Type of Rate: FAMILY PLAN
Rate Information:- Rate available on a second room for children 17 and under. Rate is eligible to earn points and tier credit.
CANCELLATION POLICY: 11:59PM HOTEL TIME 1 DAY BFR ARRV OR PAY 1 NIGHT FEE/CCARD RQRD
It's interesting that this rate is so-little publicized and only bookable over the phone. But it really is a great "hack" for those of us who frequently travel with 2-room-sized families.

I forgot about trying to apply a suite upgrade certificate to one of the rooms. I emailed my globalist concierge about that, and I'll report back with anything relevant I learn.
