Is anyone able to provide a definitive and updated guide to what needs to happen after receiving a new passport (if you are a Canadian citizen).

My understanding is that you need to visit both sides of the border to have them update it in their system. Does this need to happen at your next border crossing? What if the line at the US side (at YYZ especially) is too long? Any help is appreciated.
