I agree with coating your stomach with Pepto-Bismol tablets actually a bit before you start the trip so that when you arrive you are ready to eat a bit more safely! If you want to be proactive when you're in country, I take half a Costco diarrhea pill at the slightest hint of a stomach disturbance. If all else fails, take a full diarrhea pill - this may bind you up for a bit, but your stomach will feel better. Sometimes, life is a tradeoff! This approach served me well all across Europe, Mexico, Columbia, Panama & Morocco. Wish I had come up with this strategy in 2006 when in Buenos Aires where I had to teach a class and felt awful - they didn't know anything about Pepto Bismol or other diarrhea solutions there even in their farmacias, or so it seems! With a sensitive stomach, I NEVER travel without my diarrhea pills . . .
