ph-ndr - I was lucky to take the direct route on the morning flight. The afternoon flight took off on time, made a hard left at the sphynx and landed 37 minutes late. Not really sure of the rationale of all this.
This morning it looks a bit 50-50, half going up Iraq and half doing the SPHINX1 SID. Looks like my aircraft is going up Iraq, so it won't be late inbound anyway.
As for the reason why this happens, the ayatollahs of Israel and Iran are currently in a contest to find out who can stand the farthest from the porcelain and not make a mess. The airlines don't want to be in the middle of this contest, and the information available to airlines as for when the next round will kick off is a bit hit and miss at the moment, so they are likely erring onthe safe side of this.
