Just came here to vent about how incompetent AA agents are even when adding a lap infant to an all-AA ticket. Just flew to Canada and back with our 1 year old (we usually buy him a seat but didn't this time). What a total mess - I had no idea how many hours I'd have to spend on the phone and chatting with AA agents to get him added properly. Apparently on international trips lap infants need their own ticket number (despite not occupying a seat) - unfortunately it seems only a small minority of agents are aware of this. By sheer luck when I called to have our son added as a lap baby to the return flight, the agent looked at the outbound and saw that it wasn't done correctly. She explained what needed to be fixed (that our baby needed his own ticket number), but ultimately didn't do it correctly either, necessitating more phone calls. Ridiculous. I can't imagine how many horror stories there are of families showing up at airports without the lap infant being ticketed properly.
