While the US today vs AUS today is accurate, the "you don't know how good we have it" may compare AU of yesteryear vs AU today.

When I moved from North America, I was gobsmacked at the 20 minutes it took to board a 767, never having to show ID to board, unlimited liquids in carry-ons etc etc.
I attributed this to the Australian "our borders are strongest to get in, but when you're in the walled garden it's paradise". This fortunately has endured.
