I did indicate that only some of AA's partner elites get free MCE. Here's the complete list:

"oneworld® Sapphire and Emerald members with elite status on Alaska Airlines, British Airways, Iberia, Finnair, Qatar Airways or Japan Airlines"

I presumed that the OP's OWE status was not through QF since:

1. he indicated that this was his first time flying QF; and

2. his FlyerTalk profile indicates that he is also Lifetime Gold with AAdvantage.
