Out of interest, why does Australia need to have different liquids and gel regulations compared to...let's see...the whole of the Europe and other continents? Why is "down under" so special in that regard?

I see plenty wrong with non pax clearing security for a chin wag and a meet and greet session at the arrival gate or when one is trying to disembark and get on the last bus home, or train...or beat that additional hour car parking cost! Perth security at T1 can be busy as it is and of course with the likes of no fast track being open (despite signs) even one person non flying going through is one person to many. Say your goodbyes and hellos somewhere else. ​​​​
